South Stormont Receives $65,200 Grant for Site Assessment

Published on 21 November 2018

A funding application by the Township of South Stormont for an environmental site assessment and the development of a remedial action plan was announced as one of 109 initiatives approved for funding through the Government of Canada and delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

The Township of South Stormont has been awarded $65,200 through the Green Municipal Fund (GMF) which will be directed towards assessing the environmental status of the former Beaches Pub property located south of the Long Sault Plaza and subsequently developing a remedial action plan to create a more desirable and development-ready parcel of land.

“We’ve solicited offers for development on this property in the past, but due to a lack of updated environmental studies, the interest was not what we had hoped,” said Peter Young, Director of Planning and Economic Development. “This grant will help create a more marketable development property for the Township. The studies can be used toward applying for a Record of Site Condition with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks as part of the cleanup of the property, which was previously used as a gas station and restaurant.”

In total, over $4.5 million in funding has been approved for the 109 initiatives across Canada through three (3) distinct programs: the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP), the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP), and the Green Municipal (GMF).
