Mayor and Council

The Corporation of the Township of South Stormont was created on January 1, 1998 through the amalgamation of the former Township of Cornwall and the former Township of Osnabruck.

Members of Council from 1998 - Present

The Township of South Stormont is governed by a five member elected Council comprised of a Mayor, a Deputy Mayor, and three Councillors elected at large by the whole Township.  A Council term lasts for a period of four years. The current term ends in 2018, and Municipal Elections are the fall of 2018. Council meetings are generally scheduled for the second and fourth Wednesday of each month; however, in summer months and as required, one meeting is held per month and special meetings are scheduled as they are required.

Our Council Chamber is located in the Township of South Stormont Town Hall, at 2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault, ON  K0C 1P0. Regular meetings commence at 7:00 PM, unless otherwise advertised. Members of the public are welcome to attend all open Council meetings.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are also appointed to sit on County Council, along with representatives of the six neighbouring municipalities that make up the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

South Stormont Council Members work part-time, therefore, they do not typically keep regular hours at the Town Hall. If you wish to contact a member of Council, please do so by e-mailing them at their respective addresses, or just give them a call.

Have Your Say - Be Part Of The Solution

You are encouraged to participate in local government. Whether you express your concern as an elector or in a leadership role, your opinion matters. You can make a difference. You can write a letter to the Council, or appear before Council to explain your concern. Please feel free to contact the Clerk's Department to request an audience with Council as a delegation. Those wishing to be a delegation must provide material to be included in the agenda package no later than the Thursday prior to the meeting. Delegations are provided with approximately 10 minutes to make a presentation to Council.
